Travel Photo Contest
Salvador da Bahia, Brazil
Help me decide which photos to submit!
There's a newspaper in the state of Oregon that is collecting travel photos for their annual photography contest, divided into three categories: A Sense of Place and People of the World (which includes photos taken anywhere outside Oregon or Washington) and the Pacific Northwest (photos taken in Oregon or Washington only). I don't have anything to submit for the Pacific Northwest, but after taking a quick browse through the photos on this site, I've got a few candidates I'd like to toss into the mix.
You can only submit five photos for each category, and I need your help deciding which I should go with! Most of these snapshots could use a bit of cleanup in PhotoShop (saturation and contrast adjustment), but that will come later.
The deadline for mailing the entries in (postmarked) is the 16th of February, so the time crunch is on! Name your top choices in the comments, and wish me luck.

I like those really desolate places:
IMG_6140 Sandboarding Peru
IMG_7333 Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni
Idyllic setting:
IMG_3649 Farm Talk
Horrifying and unlikely to please the photo judges, though then again, who knows?:

Interesting, but needs the caption to be understood:

Not sure why I like this one:

Eh, I think you could do better. Not that these aren't good photos, I just think you have some much better ones…not that I'm going to go through them all and give you ACTUAL suggestions!! I'm a huge help, I know. OK…if I HAVE to choose from this list, I'd go with Places: Wine, Reeds People: Tracks, Farm, and maybe Ben
Good luck!!
PS. I wish I could use your page on Safari…Mac hater!

Ms Katie — I did a lot of cross-browser compatibility testing and tweaks when I built back in 2005, are you having problems in the snapshots gallery or the travelogue part of the site? What version of Safari are you using?
…how's the computer class at uni going? (poke, poke, wink)
Jennifer — Thanks for the thumbs-up from your Mac

Thanks all for your thoughts.
I sat here in Brazil and gave a lot of thought to these images. I researched the winners and finalists for the same contest for 2004, 2005, and 2006, and framed my choices around the commonalities of those images.
My choices, in order of preference:
A Sense of Place
1. Titicaca Reeds — Floating Islands of the Uros, Lake Titicaca, Peru
2. Mexican Cerveza — Puerto Penasco, Mexico
3. Salar de Uyuni — Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
4. Argentine Wine — Maipu, Argentina
5. Bolivian Village — Village between Uyuni and Potosi, Bolivia
People of the World
1. Deaf Motorist — Piriapolis, Uruguay
2. Flat Tire — Outside Leon, Nicaragua
3. Ben and Mary — St. Vincent, St. Vincent and The Grenadines
