The Generosity of Craig
Quetzaltenango, Guatemala
Craig Strong, my old friend, photography mentor, and recent inventor of the über-popular Lensbaby, has made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
Craig and I have been talking about my camera situation since I arrived in Guatemala (about 2 & 1/2 weeks ago). He too has suffered through two broken Canon's like mine (through no fault of his own), and has generously offered to solve my photography woes (by picking the cost of a new camera, and mailing it all the way down to Guatemala)! I believe he has selected the (more) durable, yet reasonably priced, Canon PowerShot A530 to be my new friend and traveling companion.
I'm still speechless about the entire situation, and have no idea how I can thank him properly.
So in Xela I will stay until the package arrives (probably in a handful of days). In the meantime, I've got at least three other relatively nearby towns/villages that I wouldn't mind checking out while I'm waiting (one of which supposedly has a pretty neat natural hot spring).
This I do know: Every photo that I take (starting next week sometime) you can thank Craig for enabling it. Thanks Craig—you are so going on the list of sponsors.

Thank you, thank you, Craig Strong! I think a functioning camera is about the most important item in Craig's backpack besides his passport. It's been a challenge helping him keep one in working order. You are true friend of the whole Heimburger family, and I thank you again for all you've done to inspire Craig. Maybe I'll get to keep Craig's SD400 we have in to Canon for repair!

Hey Craig, I lke the linke you added from your blogs. But a suggestion to put on your to-do list: is there a way you can provide a way for your frequent visitors see your most recent photo postings? I have trouble remembering from one day to the next what I've seen already, and sometimes you add pics to the same category you already posted, so it's a guessing game to find the new photos. Maybe a page where your photos are sorted or organized by date posted?

Dad,
Yeah, I know finding new photo's can be a bit of a chore. The best I could do is possibly re-enable a script that displays when the album was updated, but I really didn't care for the aesthetics of it. …So keep clickin'! I do my best to upload images as often as possible, but I do tend to keep adding to albums if I'm in the same region (and posting into old one's if I haven't done it in a while).
BTW, I enjoy this picture…

Craig, thanks for the thanks. I got it today and will be sending it out once I get some batteries to go with it.
Maybe I should throw it against a wall and see if the LCD makes it, or better yet, put it in my back pocket and hang out in a hammock for several hours. Nah, no time for that.
Did I mention that I have taken apart every electronic device I have even owned..?
Regardless, it works and should serve you well.

You know T, not everyone has been to LA and seen the Guatemalan women (dressed in their indigenous clothing) dead on the grass… you insensitive clod!
