Wacky Bedouin Kids, Beautiful Desert Sunset
Al-Beidha, Jordan
The menacing thunderstorm that moved in towards our Bedouin village as we returned from Little Petra ended up changing direction just before hitting; leaving the cluster of homes in the middle of a short-lived dust storm as it suddenly blew north. With little else to do, we ventured back out into the village after the winds had settled.
Taking Aidric on a walk around this place kicks up a storm of its own. Wives, daughters and young children came pouring out of the homes to get a look at our strange little family unit. Quite a sight we are: a blond American, a dark-skinned Latina and a spunky German-looking baby.
Aidric's fan club was certainly in high gear as we slowly traipsed around the tiny village. These kids have so much energy, and move exceptionally fast, despite the occasional lack of footwear.
We were bestowed with a glorious sunset in the rapidly chilling evening air, before heading inside to get warm and enjoy some of our host family's delicious food.

That was a particularly delicious meal dalair. The rice was made with cinnamon, clove, tomatoes, onions, and peas — turning the rice a caramel color brown. That's chicken in the middle, and as the Bedouins eat most everything family style, this dish was shared between all.
Using your spoon, you take a dollop of yogurt and place it on the rice you intend to eat. Some family members broke off pieces of the chicken with their spoons and mixed it into the rice/yogurt combo. Very tasty.

Hey Craig…I see that you are back in the States. Is everything alright? As I know you don't make a habit of going back unless it is necessary. Hopefully you just went back to visit family and friends…Anywys I look foward to reading some new posts when you get the time to put them up.

Hey Roshon, thanks for the note. I'm back in the States for family reasons. So, just in case you missed the note on Twitter, after about 4 years of travel I'm repatriating to the U.S. for the rest of 2009 & better part of 2010. Expect regular updates to the site once the dust settles — hopefully I'll get this travelogue current by the close of the year.

Craig…thanks for the update. I actually didn't know you have a twitter, so I will be sure to check you out on there as well. I'm sad to here that you are going to be in the States for so long, but hopefully you and the family will resume travel sometime in 2010. I want to see more adventures..lol. Nonetheless I look foward to reading up on your travels the past few months as you post them

I love the photo of the food at the bottom, even though it looks a little like a bowl full of maggots.
