Loving or Loathing Country Flags
Lima, Peru
Argentineans and Brazilians seem to have the most flag pride of any country I've visited. Common is the sight of these patterns and colors within these countries, or tattooed onto the arms and ankles of the populous.
Canadian backpacker culture seems to dictate the sewing of their maple leaf adorned flag in a prominent spot on their packs. And no, I've never seen any U.S. citizen practicing this technique to fool others—it's easier just to lie than to visibly brand yourself—nothing but silly European rumors.
Josh Parsons, a philosophy lecturer at a New Zealand university, has created a rather interesting ranking of the best and worst country flags of the world (though not completely comprehensive). His grading methodology devalues flags that have pictures, bad color combinations, or even too many stars.
There are some glaring inconsistencies with his grading through, as Chad and Romania have the same flag, but different grades (B- vs. B).
Currently, my top two country flags are those sported by Argentina and The Isle of Man:
What's your favorite country flag?
