Young and Sexy
Marigot, St. Martin
I only lasted three nights on the sleepy island of Anguilla before I jumped on a ferry back to St. Martin.
Even though I was meeting plenty of interesting people as I hitched around Anguilla, I'm happy I left when I did. The past three days since my return have found me exploring new parts of the island, witness to the second annual Miss Hawaiian Tropic St. Maarten contest, and the glorious retirement of my lackluster Teva sandals (culminating in the act of vigorously hurling them into a large Marigot dumpster).
With my time on the island drawing to a close, I reflect on my own experiences and observations, and try to articulate how someone could enjoy themselves here…
How to Live Young, Sexy, and Free in St. Martin/Maarten
- Go impulse-shopping on and around the Philipsburg boardwalk
- Peruse the latest fashions in Marigot
- Frolic in the nude at Orient Beach
- Dine at fine beachside restaurants in Grand Case
- Feel aircraft strafe less than 50 feet above your head on Maho Beach
- Drink the local rum
- Watch the sunset atop Fort St. Louis
- Press your luck in a Dutch casino
- Daytrip to the British-controlled island of Anguilla to snorkel or swim with (captured) dolphins
- Practice your French/Spanish with locals and tourists on the bus, or rent a fun compact car and learn how to curse in the local tongue whilst stuck in traffic
- Open a bottle of wine on the beach and watch Caribbean-blue waves break as you contently snack on exotic cheese
- Pick up a hotel room Maho Bay, walking distance from the best nightlife; a villa near the enjoyable beach and dining scene in the village of Grand Case; a cabin on a chartered catamaran docked at the chic Marigot Marina Royale; or go local, and enjoy the equivalent of a bed-and-breakfast out of someone's home
- Buy a piece of local art from a gallery
- Pay in cash with four different types of currency—in one day—mixing two or more types together for extra entertainment
- Lounge, drink, dine, dance, and swim with other fabulous people at the visually stimulating Bliss, or at Kuta Beach, a Balinese-themed playground for adults
- Take a moment to indulge your taste buds with an authentic French dessert—I recommend my favorite, the crème brulé

Hey Andy,
It's been a flurry of activity the past few days, and as of last night I'm out here somewhere in the suburbs of San Juan, Puerto Rico (in Condado). I'm walking around looking for Internet access this afternoon, but haven't been successful as of yet. I'm currently using the computer inside the manager’s office at a Best Western!
The PDA has been wonderful to use, and has saved me countless hours at net cafes! BTW, I heard the Italians have returned to the Odessa.

Hey there wanderer…
Puerto Rico, eh? You should contact Laine. She'd love to hear about your exploits in any Spanish speaking country. PS - She's officially home from Mozambique & people continuously ask her if Africa is a beautiful "country". Ugh. =)
