Gas Meter Home Robbery in Turkey

Here in turkey some of the natural gas meters not only display consumption, but credit. Gas in this country is sometimes purchased on a prepaid-credit system.
I was watching a new story today where there are thieves going around looking at these gas meters to see how much credit is left, and breaking into/burglarizing the homes that have a large amount remaining on account—the rational being that natural gas is expensive in this country, and that anyone who can afford a large credit must be rich.
