How Do You Prepare Your Rice?
Miami Beach, United States
I got my lifetime quota of rice consumption out of the way long before I started traveling in places where kids who've never cooked for themselves before prepared regular meals of pasta and rice in hostel kitchens. Admittedly, my preference for rice preparation is with a rice cooker—I'm lazy like that—but even with the mode of cooking taken away, people have different ways of preparing raw rice.
Some folks like to wash their rice thoroughly before cooking it. Others soak it in cold water for several hours before preparation. Tatiana introduced me to a new way that she prefers to prepare her rice: Frying the raw, uncooked grains with a small amount of oil before adding water.
